Project:

Coordinated IT Requirements with Architect and Managed Move to New Building

Client:

Decision Support Systems

Benefit:

Data center space built to suit the company's current and potential future needs for space, HVAC, power, and telecommunications access. All remote offices came online Monday morning after the move without incident, end user equipment was redeployed without issue and telephone system deployment had only minor annoyance dialing plan issues.

Highlights
  • The firm had a 40,000 square foot facility built to suit for office, data center and warehouse space to support the firm's national distribution requirements.

  • I worked with the architects from initiation regarding IT's requirements for space, power, backup generator, communications capacity and access, and HVAC capacity to ensure that the 3 year growth plan could be accommodated without any significant capacity changes in the infrastructure.

  • I redesigned the core and distribution networking environment including cable plant design and equipment specifications.

  • The data center move went flawlessly. All systems, Windows, Unix, Solaris, Oracle Financials, came up in the environment with no problems.

  • End user's PCs moved with minimal issues - the most serious coming from rough handling by the moving crew. The computing environment was 100% available to in-house users Monday morning after the move. One branch office had an issue with Exchange to Exchange server connections and handshaking that was easily resolved.
